Nobuchika MORI

日本金融厅长官

Nobuchika Mori is the Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency (FSA). He leads supervision of financial institutions including banks, securities firms and insurance companies, and directs legislative and regulatory planning to ensure financial stability and enhance economic growth. Since joining the FSA in 2006, Mr. Mori has held various executive posts including the Director General for the Supervisory Bureau, the Director General for Inspection Bureau and the Vice Commissioner for Policy Coordination. In those capacities, he has engaged in modernizing the supervisory and monitoring system for banks and other financial entities, and has promoted fair and robust capital markets under Abenomics. Prior to his posting to the FSA, Mr. Mori spent three years in New York as the Chief Representative in New York for the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MOF). From 2002 to 2003, Mr. Mori played a leading role in establishing the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan (IRCJ) as a director of the IRCJ Taskforce in the Cabinet Office. Mr. Mori's earlier experience with the MOF includes negotiating the Japanese Government's position in WTO and FTA talks (2001 to 2002), communicating the Japanese Government's view on monetary policy to the Bank of Japan (2000 to 2001), addressing Japanese banks' nonperforming loans (1994 to 1995), appropriating the Japanese Government's budget (1990 to 1994), and drafting capital adequacy rules governing Japanese securities firms (1988 to 1990).  From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Mori was seconded to the Inter- American Development Bank in Washington, DC, where he worked as Deputy Treasurer. He holds a BA degree in liberal arts from Tokyo University and BA and MA degrees in economics from Cambridge University.  Mr. Mori was born on February 24, 1957. He is married and has one son.
